International Al-Quds Day is an annual event held on the last Friday of the Holy Islamic month of Ramadhan which was initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979 to express support for the Palestinians and oppose Zinonism and Israel.
The annual event is held in several countries, mainly in the Arab and Muslim World, with protests against Israel’s Occupation of Jerusalem and Jewish Settlements in Israeli-occupied territories. The rallies which take place on International Al-Quds day are held in various cities by both Muslim and non-Muslim communities around the world to condemn the Israel’s killing of the Palestinians and to shed light on the right of return for the Palestinian refugees displaced in 1948 after the establishment of Israel.
The Anti-Zionist day of Protests was suggested by the leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, Ruhollah Komeini, as he declared on August 7, 1979 that the last Friday of Ramadhan each year as Quds Day, in which Muslims worldwide would unite in solidarity against Israel and in support of the Palestinians.
Khomeini declared the “liberation” of Jerusalem a religious duty to all Muslims. The day, he stated:
”I invite Muslims all over the globe to consecrate the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as Al-Quds Day and to proclaim the international solidarity of Muslims in support of the legitimate rights of the Muslim people of Palestine.” — Ruhollah Khomeini
